Frequently Asked Questions About Employment Peer Mentor Program
Employment Peer Mentors are persons with lived experience with mental health and/or addictions issues and who are in recovery. Employment Peer Mentors (EPMs) draw from their experiential knowledge to inspire hope and empower others in similar situations by providing social and emotional support in order to assist their peers on the path of recovery.
You would complete a Referral Form and an Additional Client Information Form. You can also phone our central number at (905) 693-4252 and request the forms be mailed to you. You can then either email the completed forms to firstname.lastname@example.org, fax them to 905-875-9262 or drop them off at one of our offices. Once we receive your referral forms you will be contacted within a few days to let you know about next steps.
No. Verification of your mental health or addiction issue is based on self-disclosure.
The type of support provided is personalised to those involved in the program. You and your Peer Mentor will develop a plan together based on your goals and how you wish to move forward. It may include, but is not limited to, helping you to build your own support network, assisting you to connect with other services in the community, or preparing you to find employment in the community.
You will be expected to be an active part in your own recovery process by setting goals and meeting your Employment Peer Mentor on a regular basis. If you need to change your appointments, we request prior notification.
The more engaged you are and the more effort you put into developing goals to assist you in moving forward on your journey to recovery, the more you will get out of your time in the Employment Peer Mentor Program.
You are the authority on your own life; we are here to assist you on your journey.
You and your Employment Peer Mentor will decide what works best. We will come and meet with you in your community, such as in coffee shop or community centre, or we can meet at any of the STRIDE offices. This is negotiable.
You can be part of the Peer Program anywhere from 3-6 months. Based on your goals, you and your Employment Peer Mentor will decide on this length together.
8. Do I need to be part of other programs at STRIDE to be eligible for the Employment Peer Mentor Program?
You can be part of any combination of programs at STRIDE, including the Employment Connection Program, Worksite Training Program, Youth Employment Program and the Employment Peer Mentor Program. However, you do not need to be part of any other programs to be involved with the Employment Peer Mentor Program.
The decision about which programs would be best for you will depend on the goals you have set.
